Even for people like me, the daughter of an alcoholic, who find drinking problematic, it's important--I think--to be yourself in front of your children and your spouse. The worst thing of all is secrecy, which is possibly what led to the Schuler tragedy, if she did, indeed, have a secret drinking problem. How are your children supposed to grow up into responsible adults if they someone doesn't model honesty and truth. If you are the daughter of an alcoholic, I think you need to tell your kids (when they are of an appropriate age, of course). If drinking is a healthy pleasure of yours, then I say go for it, without shame and guilt.
