This post states early on that the content does not apply to all teenage girls, but the conditions that are later described do apply to both drinking and non-drinking teens.

Considering the multitude of conditions that might facilitate poor decisions, what can be learned about the many well-adjusted teens, who under similar conditions, have instead made better choices?

Very insightful message....however I am nearing retirement age and I found the message applies to all WOMEN, not just teenage girls. So how can we help them find better, healthier coping skills.

This is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
Elizabeth is my favorite author and LYHYMY brought me to to tears when I read it. A very empowering and very relatable story.
I don't personally drink, but I understand what the escape it can offer may mean. I find the same thing in reading.

Thank you for delivering even more amazingness, Elizabeth. Ily!

Beautifully written, insightful depiction of the near impossible standards our young women are struggling with today...

However, I tend to ask myself whether binge drinking is a result of all of this self imposed and societal pressure to perform
...or is it a current fad the way, similarly detrimental, recreational drugs were for so many years?
Both genders partake in this dangerous mode of drinking and obviously kids are still getting high- but frequency seems to be the variable factor.
Either way, accountability, not excuses, must be heaped unto the pile of expectations our girls need to juggle. Hopefully, with a strong sense of self- she'll be up to the challenge.
