Great stuff!! Very bittersweet and rich with details. A mac is a computer, tho, I think you mean Mack, as in truck? You have a great voice and a very interesting story to tell. Write on!!

Aaaah. Beer. Yes.

My first beer experience was also Genny Cream Ale (or Screamers, as we came to call them.) at a Science Fiction convention in....Utica? I had 14 of them, without vomiting or even feeling all that drunk.

My drinking and drugging machismo would come to an end five years later in a pysch ward. Thankfully, I lacked the genes for alcoholism, instead having a vicious bipolar 2, undiagnosed for 3 decades, which would periodically lead me to embarass myself in other ways, drug and alcohol free.

A six pack now lasts for weeks here; anything with too much flavor ends up half drunk, warm on end table the next morning. Mary Jane drinks a glass of wine a night.

But ah. The sweet miseries of youth.

Deidra

You are an inspiration and I think that essay and
your message is right on.
When it ceases to be fun and one chooses beer/alcohol
over friends and family, it's time to consider
quitting.
I'm proud of you and your mission : )

now that the beer and I have parted there are no hard feelings.....a true relationship statement ....but you left on good terms...the hard part would be if you ever got together again ,it would be more enjoyable for the beer. I love you Dee and I am so proud of you.
