This is such a vivid, wonderful description of Henri and his big heart, his tales of travel and union struggles, his love of good food, good wines and comraderie. “Nothing is too good for the workers.”
It has all your honesty , courage and continuing understanding of yourself. Beautifully written. Thanks for sharing it.

The wine tasting, I imagined how goog it was as i read the piece. But, when the rum was made available I started salivating. Ah, but there are always the consequences. I’d rather be drunk on sobriety.

What memories this story brings back, trying not to fall into a drunken stupor when the alcohol flowed freely at public gatherings: the weddings where NOT consuming as much scotch as possible seemed rude; the art openings where I could not get down enough of the free glasses of wine which were never full enough; the faculty functions where I always hoped some other teacher would get drunker than I so I could assume a superior attitude.
